Despite easing of lockdown measures, an end to the Corona crisis is not in sight. According to the latest knowledge, the effects will continue to accompany companies beyond 2020. In addition to small and medium-sized companies, cultural institutions in particular have to plan anew every day and secure resources. The Hagenbeck Zoo also suffers from the exit restrictions and assembly bans - and with it 500 different animal species. In order to set a sign of North German solidarity, the medium-sized mechanical engineering company AMANDUS KAHL has decided to support feed and care by purchasing 1,000 tickets.
Although the Hagenbeck Zoo is Northern Germany's largest zoo, park management and care staff do not know how to ensure feeding and care of the more than 500 different animal species. Added to this must be the costs of ensuring medical care appropriate to the species. Zoos and animal parks are particularly affected by the current COVID-19 regulation, as there is hardly any other place where such a great responsibility for third parties exists - because the more than 16,000 animals depend on feeding and help from outside.
For this reason, the medium-sized and owner-managed mechanical engineering company AMANDUS KAHL GmbH & Co. KG has decided to contribute to a short-term compensation of the missing revenues by purchasing tickets. "It is our responsibility to look both right and left and to find out who is particularly in need of help due to the Corona crisis," says Managing Director Dr. Victoria Behrmann. The financial support of Hagenbeck Zoo is particularly important to her. "Animals can help themselves in the wild, but in institutions such as zoos or animal parks they are 100 percent dependent on the help of others. And if animal caretakers cannot be paid or there is no money for feed, in the worst case, animal sales or complete closure even after the Corona crisis must be considered. "
In order to set an example and postpone such options for as long as possible, the mechanical engineering company based in Reinbek has taken the first step and with the purchase of the tickets has made financial support in the five-digit range possible. "In this way, we hope to encourage other companies to support Hagenbeck Zoo - either financially or, for example, by donating feed."
